Business Unit Manager Intermodaal • Nederland

After nearly a century of experience, the Vervaeke Group has developed into a major logistic service provider for liquids in the Benelux and into an important player on the European market. The Vervaeke Group is offering high-quality transportation of hundreds different dangerous goods in a professional, secured and active way. This family group has evolved during three generations from a traditional transport company into a provider of integrated logistics solutions for the chemical and oil industries. After the recent acquisition of Van der Lee and Jan Dohmen in the Netherlands, the Vervaeke group possesses a modern fleet of over 800 ADR approved tractor units, 1000 tanks and 750 tank containers of widely differing types. The Vervaeke Group is executing more than 1500 trips a day for the most important Chemical, Petrochemical and Oil companies. The Vervaeke Group offers tank transport as well as logistics and related services from thirteen sites, strategically distributed along the leading chemical cluster of Europe (Antwerp – Rotterdam – Ruhr area). The company employs 950 people from which around 850 are drivers, all trained and based in the Benelux, Germany and France.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Business Development for the intermodal activities in accordance with the strategic outlook of the Vervaeke group
  • Developing new markets, customers, products, or geographical scope for intermodal business
  • Commercial responsibility for all contracts, pricing and negotiating activities
  • for all customers and transport modes. This responsibility should be in consultation with the sales members of the Vervaeke group and the on-site Manager Operations
  • First point of entry for all customers in case of commercial requests or every non-operational issues
  • Processing of all tenders
  • Drawing up the investment plan for the intermodal equipment
  • Preparation of the annual budget
  • Contact and development of the different partners like railway companies, sub-contractor in different countries
  • Observation of the market / competition to secure state of the art knowledge
  • Presentation of the intermodal activities at (potential) customers
  • Support the digitalisation activities of the group
  • Deploy active sustainable solutions by using for example alternative CO2 reduced trucks / assets

Authority

The job holder will sign contracts and agreements with customers and represent the company. Major investments e.g.: in assets / equipment must be agreed internally with different interfaces and at least approved by the general manager of the Vervaeke group.

Reporting line

The job holder will report directly to the general manager of the Vervaeke group in the head office in Zellik.

Required qualification

  • > 10 years of experience in forwarding and logistics desirable especially in intermodal
  • Commercial / budget experience
  • Negotiation skills in logistics / tendering knowledge
  • Driven in chemical products and dangerous goods in bulk liquids
  • Proactive and open minded in communication
  • Previous management experience desirable
  • Good knowledge in MS office products
  • Dutch native speaker, complimented with English and German
