Crane Maintenance Superintendent • Beira Mozambique

Cornelder de Moçambique (CdM) is a private consortium, formed through a partnership between the Mozambican public company Porto e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM – Ports and Railways of Mozambique) and Cornelder Group. CdM has been operating the Container and General Cargo Terminals in the port of Beira since October 1998 and is one of the most important providers of the port services in Mozambique. It is currently cited as one of the key bases for transport logistics in the country.

The container terminal is one of the most modern Terminals in southern Africa. The facilities include a 645 metre long quay with a depth of 12 metres. The terminal has 4 container gantry-cranes, two of which have the capacity to carry 65 tonnes.

The terminal can store more than 10,000 TEU’s and has 148 electricity connection points for refrigerated containers. Currently, the terminal can handle 300,00 TEU’s a year.

Purpose of the role

The Crane Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance of all STS Gantry Cranes and mobile cranes in service in the Port. He manages the team that performs planning of maintenance activities and controls the execution by sub-contractors and in house maintenance teams. Together with the Maintenance Manager he develops long term plans for improvement and expansion of the equipment fleet.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and monitor all maintenance activities for Cranes, STS Gantries and Auxiliary Equipment under maintenance by sub-contractors and internal maintenance teams.
• Ensure thatsub-contractors and internal maintenance teams execute work in compliance with equipment maintenance contracts and ensure that maintenance is performed in accordance with the company standards and OEM requirements.
• Monitor and document downtime and equipment performance. Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and develop maintenance strategies to reduce downtime and improve performance.
• Coordinate between Maintenance departments and Container and General Cargo Terminals.
• In conjunction with subcontractors prepare long term maintenance plans for all cranes and equipment.
• Prepare scope of works and repair methods for major repairs, overhauls and equipment upgrade projects and in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager and Procurement department do contracting of these works to local and international service providers.
• In conjunction with the Maintenance Manager, Procurement and Stock Departments develop and implement a spare part stock and procurement strategy.
• Monitor spare part usage and ensure timely ordering in line with the stock and procurement strategy.
• Prepare management reports in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager
• Prepare the Maintenance budget in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager.
• Assist Health and Safety Department in accident investigations and advise on accident prevention and safe operational practices. 
• Ensuring that Subcontractors and staff obey health and safety regulations and follow safe working practices and respect environmental regulations for any work that is being executed. 
• Ensuring a good working environment and collaboration between team members and continuous monitoring of their performance and recommend on training requirements to improve skills and ensure compliance with international standards and norms.

Knowledge and education

• Thorough knowledge of Port cranes and/or Mobile Cranes and ancillary equipment.
• A degree or other formal qualifications in mechanical and/or electrical/mechatronic engineering or sufficient training courses in maintenance of cranes to ensure sufficient theoretical understanding.
• Thorough knowledge of the industry Standards & Codes and of Health and Safety Standards.
• Membership of Professional Associations are beneficial
• Having knowledge of maintenance software programs for planning and monitoring will be beneficial.

• Minimum 5 years of previous experience in a comparable maintenance related
• environment.
• Experience with managing teams of technicians.
